One is a full game and the other is a short sequal of a game to the first game. The graphics are pretty good for its time. It's a rather beautiful game. I really felt like I was wandering through a haunted house. I recommend playing with the lights off. I took off a star for two reasons. The inventory system is a little buggy.
I would try to use an item and the screen would grow darker instead of closing the inventory. You have to look through and select everything in the house it seems in order for it to allow you to progress past the moment you are told to look for candles. Other than that, you don't really need a walkthrough to get through the game. There are usually some sort of clue in the game and you can just try different items try it even if it seems silly with each other and different places to figure out how to solve the puzzles. When all else fails, your character likely needs to call someone.
I recommend playing this game with a friend. It is more fun with company. This is one of those games where it isn't going to hold your hand through the plot. If you don't figure out the conclusion for yourself, it isn't going to spell it out for you. Piecing together all the clues also doesn't answer every question you will have about what is going on. It makes the story feel more real and like the world is much bigger than what you can see.
This game will make you think and likely come up with your own theories even after you complete the game. This is why I say it's better to play with a friend.
I was originally introduced to the game by a friend and finished it recently with my wife. We enjoyed it. There are apparently two endings. One doesn't make sense to me with the second game. The second game is obviously a concussion to the true ending.
Make sure you play the first game first or you will likely either be super confused or run into major spoilers. I wasn't entirely sure if I should've bought this game, seeing all the mixed reviews-but I'm glad I did!
